Nutritional Therapy
– It is said that “you are what you eat”, and a key component of “lifestyle medicine” is optimal nutrition. At the Stopping Diabetes Program, you will learn more about the proven relationship between nutrition and your health than most physicians learn in medical school. This will give you the tools you need to make the nutritional changes you choose for your life, and will help you restore and protect your health.

  • Enjoy Dietitian or Nutritionist consultations to craft a nutritional program that will help you achieve your goals
  • Learn the benefits of eating for health presented by Health Educators
  • Obtain advice on shopping for and planning meals – a critical success component as you implement your new healthier lifestyle
  • Hands-on cooking classes provide you with the practical experience you need in preparing quick and easy wholesome meals
  • You will love the delicious plant-based meals prepared for you each day
  • Our on-site restaurant is staffed with professional Chefs, who create a dazzling array of food for you

Laboratory Services
– As part of your medical evaluation, a complete laboratory suite of tests are provided. Not only do the results guide your physician in the treatment of your health, but your physician will take the time to explain each test, your results, the significance on your health and what you can do about it. We put the most important person in charge of your health: YOU!

  • CBC (complete blood count) - this gives information concerning bone marrow function, the presence of anemia, as well as other indicators of blood abnormalities
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel - a measure of several blood "chemistries", including blood sugar, electrolytes, kidney and liver function
  • Hemogloblin A1c - this is a measurement of the average blood sugar reading over the previous three month period of time, and is a relative indicator of overall blood sugar control.  The higher the level, the greater the risk of diabetic complications
  • Serum insulin level - when analyzed along with the corresponding fasting blood sugar, the degree of insulin resistance in the body can be determined
  • Lipid profile - measures total cholesterol, "good" and "bad" cholesterol, as well as the cardiovascular "risk ratio" which helps to estimate the risk of heart attack
  • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) - a measurement of the activity of the thyroid gland, and the potential necessity for thyroid supplementation
  • Urinalysis - screens for infection, as well as the presence of blood, protein, and other substances that could be indicative of kidney damage
  • Urine microalbumin:creatinine ratio - a sensitive test that measures even microscopic amounts of protein in the urine, and evaluates for the presence of diabetic kidney damage at its earliest stages.
  • Vitamine B-12 level - measures the level of vitamin B-12, which plays a role in proper bone marrow function, neurologic, and cardiovascular health
  • 25-hydroxy Vitamin D level - this hormone vitamin is important in regulating calcium, keeping bones healthy, preventing various cancers, and controlling auto-immune system diseases
Optional lab tests - there are a couple more lab tests we may recommend after your initial lab work depending on your clinical circumstances.  Even though they are not part of the standard lab package and additional fees would apply, neither of these tests will be performed without first discussing it with you and getting your permission.
  • Serum C-peptide level - this can help to determine the approximate function of the pancreas, and may help the physician to know whether or not insulin is indicated as a treatment recommendation.+
  • GAD-65 antibody level - can be used to help determine if there are antibodies directed against the pancreas, thus leading to a failure of the pancreas to produce adequate amounts of insulin.+

Exercise and Fitness Evaluation – As part of your health assessment, we evaluate your current fitness.

  • A personal exercise evaluation clarifies your current fitness status
  • Muscle strength testing is used to determine your capacity for exercise and to demonstrate your improvement over the course of the program
  • A flexibility assessment measures your flexibility and indicates potential areas of improvement

Exercise Therapy
– Once your exercise and fitness Evaluation is complete, our Fitness Trainers will work with you to craft a custom exercise program for you. The exercise protocol researched at Lifestyle Center of America provides a little bit of rest for every minute of exercise. This results in faster weight loss, better cardio-vascular condition and (almost best of all), minimal lactic acid buildup in the muscles.

  • You receive an individual exercise prescription for you to use during your stay and when you return home
  • Your Fitness Trainer will work with you during your training sessions to demonstrate proper technique and to encourage you
  • Aerobic conditioning, muscle strengthening and flexibility training are all covered by the professional fitness team
